What constitutes sexual assault in Ontario?
The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region reports that sexual assault is a term that encompasses things from inappropriate touching or kissing to forced sexual contact and non-consensual sex. However, it does not have to be physical actions, it can also include threats, intimidation, privacy breaches, revenge porn and repeated sexual jokes or comments.
Is there a statute of limitations?
In Ontario, there is no longer a statute of limitations when it comes to sexual assault civil cases. This means you can file a lawsuit even years after it happened, but the evidence can expire and become unusable the longer you wait. It is advisable to take action as soon as you can to have the best shot possible at recovering the compensation you deserve.
